February 29, 2012

Are you one of those people who feel restricted when sleeping in your sleeping bag? If you answered yes then this article is about to rock your world. Read on to discover the Selk Bag, the words best wearable Sleeping Bag.

Wearable Sleeping Bag?

Ok, your probably thinking you wear all sleeping bags? You might get into a sleeping bag and think your wearing it, but can you easily get and walk around? can you reach out grab things? No, I didn’t think so.

Enter the Selk bag

If you’re one of those people who fell restricted sleeping in a sleeping bag you’re in for some great news. The Selk bag is a sleeping bag that you wear. It gives people the freedom to move around since it worn like a jump suit.

Free Your Hands

The selk bag has separate arms and legs. This allows you to move around. You can stick out your hands out if you need to reach for something and the soles on the feet of the bag allow you to move around without having to worry what kind of surface you’ll walk on, even if you have to go out of your tent.

Nomads

The Selk Bag was named as such, to pay homage to the nomadic group of people from the southern Chile and Argentina region called the Selk’nam. The origin of this name is not a surprise considering that it has been designed by a Chilean graphic designer, Rodrigo Alonso Schramm.

A Surprising Use

For me the most compelling reason was the ability to get out of the tent in the early hours of a cold camp morning and take a whizz (yes, sorry ladies, it’s much easier for us guys!). This ability alone is gold, and I must say it’s absolutely perfect for doing just that. You can easily stand up, walk out side, unzip just a section, free your hands out of the special quick release hand closure system and do what you have to do. Brilliant!

Let’s talk about the awesome features

Selk Bag features

  • Nylon Sole and Quick-release hand closure system – These features allows you to have more movement since you can stick out your hands if you need to reach for something and the soles would definitely allow you to move around without having to worry what kind of surface you’ll walk on, even if you have to go out of your tent.
  • Well-constructed materials – The Selk Bag is made of materials like nylon taffeta shell, micro-fiber polyester insulation which keeps you dry, comfortable and prevents heat loss. This makes it ideal in extremely cold regionss and helps you stay that way even in temperatures as low as -8.4 degrees
  • Hood with adjustable drawstring – This provides additional warmth by not exposing your head and therefore making you feel a lot more comfortable especially during cold winter nights.
  • Baffled Construction – When we are out in the cold there are certain parts of our body that feels colder than the others. Good thing the Selk Bag has a baffled construction meaning there are specific areas on it that has been sealed so that the down won’t move and that ensures that the certain cold spot will be given more warmth.
  • Thermal Collar – This specifically prevent air leakage from the neck.

I can’t think of another sleeping bag that would beat the mobility, comfort and warmth that the Selk’Bag brings.
